Unwanted Gifts & What to do with them

Everyone has one don't they, you can count on someone buying something you really didn't want for your brithday, Christmas, wedding, or any other time you may get gifts - there is always one that you don't want.

But what do you do with them?

Do you donate it to charity knowing that in 12 months time the person that ended up getting you the unwanted present, will turn up at your house, and you will live in fear of them actually noticing that it's not taken pride of place in the front room, or you dread them asking if they can borrow it back for a while!

Yes, it places that fear of karma, it all coming back to haunt you if you suddenly do decide to throw out that unwanted candle set that would look absolutely ghastly on the window ledge, or that aaron sweater that not even a weatherman would dare wear these days.

Who'd have thought that an unwanted gift could cause so much worry & conjecture - but it does!

What's the most unwanted present you've ever been bought?

Is it that pair of stripey socks you received off your mum for Christmas?

  1. Jeff,
For some reason my sister gave me her retainer, all wrapped up and ever thing. She has never liked me any way.

  2. ^ LOL Bob!

I do end up giving all those unwanted gifts away, when I do get them. It's been a while though; the last few years have been tough on the collective wallet. I either regift them (Yeah, yeah, I know) or bring them to Goodwill OR straight-up return them to Wal-Mart and get something cool to put into the Toys for Tots bins.

  3. OK - I have the best "what to do with an unwanted gift" story ever!!! ha ha A friend of mine received a wedding gift, a popcorn popper. As she already had one, she said thanks and shoved it into a closet. MONTHS later, looking for extra cash, she put this popcorn popper on ebay and sold it. The man who bought it came to her place of employment to pick it up. Shortly after leaving, she received a call from the front desk that the man was back. On the long journey to the front, she contemplated what in the world could be wrong. It was at about this point she realized she had NEVER even opened the box!!! Turns out - the popcorn popper box had a SPICE RACK on the inside. The poor guy that purchased the popcorn popper was certain he was being scammed! She returned the money and took back the gift that she now uses in her home! HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!! poor ebay guy!

MORAL of the story: if you are gonna get rid of a gift, make sure you know what it is first! LOL
